today's news reminded me of some "need a spankin'" recent comments...
RISE OF THE VIOLENT “LITTLE EMPERORS” (Friday Church News Notes, July 22, 2011, - The following is excerpted from “Rise of the Violent,” Daily Mail, July 11, 2011: “Children are becoming increasingly violent towards their parents when they do not get their own way, a leading psychologist has warned. The ‘little emperors’ of this ‘spoilt generation’ lash out both at home--particularly at mothers who stand in their way--and school or even nursery. Experts have blamed the decline in respect for authority on a lack of clear parental boundaries and rules, as well as an emphasis on children’s rights. The problem is getting worse and spans the class divide, according to Dr Aric Sigman, a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine. He said the age at which children were violent and disrespectful towards their teachers ‘is coming down to nursery level’. He added: ‘They’re swearing and throwing chairs at their teachers at younger and younger ages. It isn’t surprising this is happening in a domestic setting. Parent abuse and parent battery appear to be on the rise and what seems to underlie this is to do with parenting, the lack of boundaries and the reversal of authority. It’s the extreme end of the spoilt generation where they actually lash out at parents, almost exclusively their mothers. There’s a lack of impulse control, demands for instant gratification and not accepting deferred gratification.’ Dr Sigman analysed academic studies, psychologists’ observations and police reports in Britain, America and New Zealand to update his book on the subject, The Spoilt Generation. He said: ‘There’s been a change, it’s getting worse and it’s going further down the age scale. I’m talking about younger and younger children, including girls, beating up their mothers and kicking them down the stairs. Mothers are ashamed to ask for help.’” Proverbs 29:15 “The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.” 2 Timothy 3:1-2 “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy.”

Doug, regarding the story about snow globes being confiscated by security at airports I have a first hand experience related to that. I worked for airfield maintenance at the Anchorage International Airport when 9-11 happened and the subsequent establishment of the TSA and all the new security procedures, rules, personal body checks and confiscation of personal property. One time, and one time only, someone from Airport Security brought us the “spoils” of the war on the American citizens (err, I mean the war on terror). There were hundreds of Bic lighters, several dozen bottles of booze, a few bottles of lotion and other various cream rinses and so on, and a few cheep knives. Everybody on my work shift took home a pretty fair haul of goodies. This, as I said, happened only one time and it became obvious that the TSA figured out pretty quickly that they could keep the bounty of what they had looted from the unsuspecting air travelers for themselves. I also found out later that, while we were offered several cheep knives, Airport Security kept some very nice and expensive knives for themselves including several Ulu knives. Ulu knives are a Alaskan Native invention made for skinning and many that were confiscated by Security had expensive ivory handles. There were also a few other regular knives in that first haul with Alaskan Native carved ivory handles. I’m sure some are worth three to $400 or more.

Bob Enyart has pointed out that security for whatever business you can mention should be conducted and paid for by that business. Airlines should be responsible for the security of their planes. Wouldn’t you think that if this was the case with airport security that the airline companies would be much more respectful of their customer’s property and offer to transport, mail or otherwise find a way to get a person’s property back to them? When the Federal government takes your property there’s nothing the average citizen can do about it.
